Drop-in cartoon workshop Bear Steps Gallery

4.30pm- 6pm

For all ages – with Steve Bright. Come after school or work to get into a Cartoon Festival mood by creating comic characters and superheroes.

 



Friday 23rd April

Comic Creation Workshop

5.30pm – 7pm

Comic Creation Workshop with John McCrea at Infinity and Beyond for all ages from 13 plus. John shows how to produce a page of comic art ( engaging the audience to help) and then everyone is able to produce their own to take away. John McCrea has been drawing comics for 20 years; during that time he worked for Marvel and DC and has drawn Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, the Hulk, Spider Man, Daredevil, Wolverine, Star Wars, Judge Dredd and the Simpsons amongst others.

Join Chichi Parish and Cathy Simpson and help bring a hilarious old tale up-to-date! We'll be telling a story, but you can help us out with the details. If you just want to listen and laugh, that's great. Even better - come along with your most off-the-wall ideas, and we'll help bring them to life in words and pictures!

Suitable for children of all ages. You don't need to bring your parents if you're over 40. Free, no need to book.

Cartoonists at Work

Cartoonists will be drawing at various times during Friday 23rd and Saturday 24th April in the Tudor Bar at The Lion Hotel. The displays of cartoons will grow throughout the weekend and are on show in the bar.

Drop in to see the displays and maybe spot the cartoonists in action.

Giant Cartoons in The Square

11am – 4pm

Cartoonists work on 8ft x 6ft boards to create huge cartoons on the Festival theme of Magic, Myth and Mystery.

The completed cartoons will be displayed in The Square from 11am – 3pm on Sunday 25th April.

Who do you think you are?

11am – 4pm

'Reverse caricaturing' in which the artist draws the subjects body life-size on a giant canvas below their head. Order the body you aspire to or put yourself at the mercy of the artist! Bring your camera.

Festival Shop

The Square

Friday 23rd & Saturday 24th April 11am – 4pm, Sunday 25th April 11am – 3pm

Cartoon cards, prints, books and other items. Festival cartoonists will be working in The Square and other venues and will be pleased to sign prints and books of their work. Cath Tate Cards of Hills Lane will stock cartoon items before and after the Festival weekend.

 


 

Exhibitions

Sunday 25th April

Giants in The Square

11am – 3pm

8ft x 6ft cartoons drawn during the Festival will be exhibited in The Square accompanied by Shropshire's own giant, town crier Martin Wood in character as Hagrid.
