"Cartoons are life affirming. I don't think we realise just how much joy they can bring as well as being a powerful weapon. Cartoons like songs can pack a huge punch as well as reflecting the world about us." - Alex Lester, BBC Radio 2 broadcaster, Festival patron
Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival is the only event of it's kind in the UK. It features an exhibition of cartoon art, workshops, a cartoon trail around town throughout April, and a day of live cartooning activity on 18th April. Each year the Festival adopts a theme for cartoonists to interpret. The result is a lot of original cartoons showing a lot of different styles and humour gathered together in one place. This year's Festival theme is Style.
On 18th April professional cartoonists from around the UK will descend on Shrewsbury to caricature and cartoon for the public. All events are free unless stated.
Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival patrons are: Libby Purves, Andrew Marr, Alex Lester, Martin Wainwright, Phill Jupitus and Katy Tanner.
